Simple Garlic Baguette – Best with Homemade Herb Butter

Equipment

  • 1 Sheet pan
  • Aluminium foil
  • 1 Garlic press
  • 1 Small mixing bowl

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Baguette
  • 120 g Soft butter
  • Fresh herbs (to taste) parsley, chives, rosemary, etc.
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Lemon pepper optional
  • Italian seasoning optional
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 2-3 cloves Garlic

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 220°C (430°F).
  • Finely chop the herbs of your choice and mix them into the butter.
  • Next, mix in the lemon juice and crushed garlic.
  • Season to taste
  • Next, you have two options. One: use a sharp knife to make deep cuts into the top of the baguette and spread the herb butter into the slits.
  • The quicker method: slice the baguette in half lengthwise, spread the herb butter on both sides, then press the halves back together.
  • Wrap the baguette in aluminum foil and bake at 220°C (430°F) for 6 minutes.
  • Serve warm.

Notes

You’ll need soft, spreadable butter, so I usually take it out of the fridge a few hours before making this. If you don’t have time for that, no problem—just soften it slightly.
Our favorite spices are parsley and chives, but I’ve also used green onions before.
I usually use salt, pepper, and lemon pepper to season. One of the great things about this recipe is how easily you can adapt it to your taste preferences.

You can also use French bread instead of baguette if you prefer that option.
I always taste the butter before spreading it on the bread. That way, it can be easily adjusted to everyone’s preference. You can use more or less garlic or herbs, depending on how you like it.
